Vasant Dora brings Habitat Scapes and Samsara to India Habitat Centre

Vasant Dora’s architectural grids meet ideas of Shiva and Shakti in *Aaveg: Between the Finite and the Infinite*, his solo exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

Curated by Jyoti A. Kathpalia, the exhibition brings together two bodies of work: *Habitat Scapes*, focused on urban buildings and spaces shaped by people, and *Samsara*, which considers cycles of existence through concepts including Purusha and Prakriti.

Dora, an artist and architect, uses structures and forms associated with the built environment but gives them colour, movement and emotion. “How can one separate the lived from the spiritual, or the habitat from the samsara,” he said of the two series.

Kathpalia described the works as carrying traces of Dora as “architect, thinker, poet and spiritualist,” shaped by urban forms, poetry and layers of human civilisation.

The opening included a ceremonial lamp-lighting attended by Manish Tiwari, Ashok Vajpeyi, Sunit Tandon, Biman Bihari Das and Niren Sengupta.
