Vidhana Soudha to be lit pink on Sunday for Gruha Lakshmi’s third year

Vidhana Soudha will glow pink for four hours on Sunday evening as Karnataka marks the third anniversary of Gruha Lakshmi, its monthly cash-support scheme for women who head households.

The illumination is scheduled from 6pm to 10pm on August 30. The state government says pink has been chosen as a tribute to women and their role in households.

Gruha Lakshmi is one of the Congress-led Karnataka government’s guarantee programmes. It provides Rs 2,000 each month to the woman head of an eligible household. The government says more than Rs 76,500 crore has been directly transferred to the accounts of 1.2 crore beneficiaries since the scheme began.

Other buildings and sites set to be lit pink include Mysuru Palace, Suvarna Soudha and Kittur Chennamma Circle in Belagavi, Chitradurga Fort, the Stone Chariot at Hampi, and the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner’s office in Mangaluru.

For Bengaluru residents around Vidhana Soudha on Sunday evening, the planned lighting will run until 10pm.
