Jayanagar, Rajajinagar volunteers clean parks, plant at Kempabudhi

Akash Mishra of Haralur found plastic waste and pieces of car-windshield glass while volunteering at Madhavan Park in Jayanagar on Sunday. He was among residents who joined plogging and waste-segregation sessions at Madhavan Park and Nagapura Park in Rajajinagar.

Volunteers collected sacks of plastic waste, including microplastics, cigarette packets and gutka sachets. Engineering student Inchara Swami said participants covered the park perimeter and discussed plastic’s impact on soil.

The day also included a planting session at Kempabudhi Park, where volunteers planted shankupushpa creepers, rosemary, nagadali, lemongrass, nelabasale and vishamooli.

For Lalriatpui Molsom of Jayanagar, who joined the activity for a second time, the practical aim was to show people what a clean park looks like and encourage its upkeep. The event followed a volunteer-led park clean-up and planting drive in Bengaluru last month.
