Delhi airport waterlogging delays passengers at T2 and T3

Mansi waited outside Delhi airport for about half an hour on September 4 as heavy rain left standing water on approach roads and forecourts at Terminals 2 and 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

“**Aisa pehle kabhi nahi dekha**,” she said, describing the volume of water around the terminal area. Govinda Pandey, who has worked at the airport for three years, said he had not previously seen water collect there in this way.

Delhi Airport said rainwater accumulated on the approach roads and forecourts and was subsequently cleared. The downpour also waterlogged airport approach roads, while the underpass connecting the airport to Vasant Kunj and parts of Connaught Place were affected.

Palam recorded 75.6 mm of rain between 8.30am and 5.30pm, the highest total among the city’s weather stations, the India Meteorological Department said. Safdarjung recorded 32.6 mm, Lodhi Road 34.6 mm, Ridge 20 mm and Ayanagar 12 mm over the same period.
