Whitefield police, residents patch roads after Gunjur-Varthur gridlock

Whitefield traffic police said hundreds of schoolchildren were stuck in buses for more than two hours on Thursday as congestion slowed movement across Gunjur and Varthur. Some affected bus routes were about 5 km long, police said.

On Friday, Whitefield traffic police and local residents began temporary patchwork on damaged stretches in the area. Personnel identified spots needing immediate attention along the Gunjur-Varthur stretch and started filling them.

Police said civic works on SH 35, or Varthur-Sarjapur Road, combined with white-topping work on Gunjur Club Road and damaged road surfaces contributed to the disruption. The temporary repairs are intended to improve movement while the works continue.

Police said they are monitoring site conditions and will implement traffic diversions where needed.
