World Bank clears ₹1,409 crore loan proposal for Gurugram Metro Phase 2

Gurugram Metro Phase 2 has received a financing push after the World Bank approved a revised ₹1,409 crore loan proposal for the planned 13km Sector 9–Cyber Hub corridor, officials said.

The revised proposal was submitted in June. It covers civil works including track laying, stations and some double-decker sections. Traction and design components were removed because the proposed World Bank funding did not cover the project’s full ₹2,700 crore requirement, a senior Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) official said.

The revised tender is under evaluation by senior GMRL and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation officials. The corridor is planned to have 14 stations, serving areas including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phases 4 and 5, and Cyber City. A spur towards Gurugram railway station is also planned.

For commuters, the key proposed benefit is interchange access to the existing Rapid Metro and Namo Bharat Rail corridor, potentially improving connections across Gurugram. No construction start date for Phase 2 has been announced.

Work is also progressing on the Millennium City Centre–Sector 9 section of the Gurugram metro project. Three pier caps have been laid, and the first 28-metre U-shaped girders are scheduled to be launched near the Sector 40 traffic signal on August 28. Land acquisition near Islampur and Basai is being expedited for the depot and station.
