YEIDA plans five university townships near Yamuna Expressway industrial corridors

Five proposed university townships near the Yamuna Expressway could each span 500 to 700 acres, combining higher education campuses with research, skilling and industry-linked facilities.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority plans to locate them within or beside major industrial corridors. Sites will be chosen for their proximity to industrial and logistics networks, the availability of large contiguous land parcels and the state’s readiness to execute the project.

YEIDA chief executive officer RK Singh said public, private and public-private partnership institutions would be able to set up campuses while retaining academic, administrative and financial autonomy. The proposed townships would include laboratories, libraries, housing, incubation centres, internship and apprenticeship cells, sports facilities, roads, utilities and digital infrastructure.

The authority wants the campuses and nearby companies to work together on research, innovation and skill development. For students, the plan is built around easier access to internships and apprenticeships; for companies, it offers a cluster of institutions and research facilities close to industrial operations.

YEIDA has not yet identified the five locations.
