Yellow alert as Saturday rain leaves parts of Delhi-NCR waterlogged

Water collected on Connaught Place’s Outer Circle after early-morning rain on Saturday, as parts of Delhi-NCR reported waterlogging.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusts of 30-40 kmph through Saturday. Light rain is expected on Sunday, followed by a likely dry spell from Monday to Thursday.

Safdarjung recorded 0.7 mm of rain between 11.30pm on Friday and 5.30am on Saturday, followed by 1.3 mm in the three hours to 8.30am. The day’s maximum temperature is expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius.

At 9am, Delhi’s AQI stood at 59, in the satisfactory category. Residents heading out during showers may encounter waterlogged stretches and should allow extra time for road travel.
