Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on yellow alert for September 12-13 rain

Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are under a yellow alert for September 12 and 13, with the IMD forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain and gusts of 30-40 kmph at isolated places.

The forecast follows more than two weeks with little rain across the region.

Mumbai is expected to receive moderate rain on September 14, the first day of Ganpati, and light to moderate rain on September 15, when idol immersions begin. The city recorded rainfall 66% below normal in August.

Since June 1, the Colaba observatory has recorded 1,809.9 mm of rain and Santacruz has recorded 2,259.9 mm. Colaba’s cumulative rainfall is 4.3 mm below normal, while Santacruz is 7 mm above normal.
