15 Delhi flights diverted as heavy rain disrupts IGI operations

Fifteen flights bound for Delhi were diverted on August 24 as heavy rain and gusty winds disrupted operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

An airport official said 12 flights were sent to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow. Scores of other flights were delayed, while some were cancelled.

The weather also slowed movement on the ground across Delhi-NCR. In Gurugram, 70 mm of rain had fallen by 1.30 p.m., leaving vehicles, school buses and ambulances caught in waterlogged stretches including Sohna Road and around Rajiv Chowk. Earlier coverage from Gurugram tracked flooding at several of the city’s key junctions.

In Delhi, waterlogging was reported around Connaught Place, ITO, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg and the Zakhira underpass. Ghaziabad also saw major roads and low-lying residential sectors flood during heavy spells.

Passengers scheduled to fly from Delhi should check their airline’s latest status before leaving for the airport.
