24.05 lakh Bengaluru voters to receive SIR notices from August 24

Bengaluru accounts for 24.05 lakh of the 43.80 lakh notices being issued across Karnataka as the Special Intensive Revision moves into its next stage.

Booth-level officers will deliver notices from August 24 to voters whose records show logical discrepancies or could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral rolls. They will also go house to house to serve them. The city’s draft roll lists 56.11 lakh voters, down from an electorate of 1.03 crore before the exercise; the draft-roll figures were published earlier today.

Each notice will carry a QR code for uploading documents, along with the hearing date, venue, officer’s name and the reason it was issued. Voters must still attend the hearing in person before an Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, even if documents are submitted online.

A booth-level officer will make two delivery attempts. If a voter misses the hearing, it can be rescheduled once. Notices may be received by a family member or neighbour, but only the voter may appear at the hearing.
