After leaving his car in Gurgaon floodwater, commuter takes bike ride home

Manas Arora stood beside his car on a submerged Gurgaon road before taking a ride on a stranger’s motorcycle to get home.

Arora, a trader and YouTuber, shared photographs and video of the journey on X after heavy rain on August 24 left several parts of the city waterlogged and slowed traffic. He said he had to abandon his car on the road; the video showed him travelling pillion through floodwater.

The disruption was not limited to one commuter. School buses carrying children were stranded on flooded roads, adding to a day of slow-moving traffic across the city. Several major roads were waterlogged, while buses were stuck for hours on some routes.

For August 25, Gurgaon’s district disaster management authority advised corporate offices, government and private schools, and educational institutions to allow staff and students to work or study from home. It said the measure would reduce traffic and allow civic agencies to repair and maintain roads and drains.

The IMD had issued an orange alert for Gurgaon on August 24. Its forecast for August 25 said the city could see a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
