Delhi: ‘Becoming’ brings six artists to Akar Prakar

Six artists working across painting, sculpture, installation and moving image feature in ‘Becoming’, on view at Akar Prakar’s new Delhi gallery space until September 17.

Curated by Siddhi Shailendra, the exhibition brings together C. Douglas, Debasish Mukherjee, Ganesh Haloi, Jayashree Chakravarty, Leang Seckon and Manish Pushkale. It places their distinct practices alongside one another, with works engaging abstraction, memory, ecology, architecture, landscape and history.

Akar Prakar said the artists’ practices have developed over several decades. The exhibition examines changes in their visual languages through their work with material, experience and form.

Architect Ashish Karode designed the new space with non-reflective finishes, lighting and an adaptable layout for works of different scales and formats.

Akar Prakar was founded by Reena Lath and Abhijit Lath in 2004. The gallery said its refreshed direction would include younger voices and contemporary practices alongside its existing collections.
