Court commissioner inspects Zamrudpur and Nizamuddin heritage sites

A Supreme Court-appointed court commissioner inspected heritage monuments in Zamrudpur and Nizamuddin on Monday, with senior officials from the Archaeological Survey of India, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and independent experts in attendance.

The visit focused on sites in south Delhi affected by encroachment. Zamrudpur has already seen an MCD clearance exercise at heritage sites, as reported in an earlier GTK report.

The joint inspection brings the court process directly to the monuments, placing ASI and MCD officials alongside the commissioner and independent experts at the sites. It also follows the Supreme Court’s earlier summons to the chiefs of the MCD and ASI over reports concerning Delhi heritage sites, covered here.
