Delhi declares September 11 holiday ahead of BRICS summit

Delhi government offices, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings will remain closed on Friday, September 11, ahead of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

The Lieutenant Governor declared the holiday through a notification issued by the General Administration Department, citing arrangements connected with the summit. September 11 falls immediately before the two-day meeting on September 12 and 13, and will be followed by the weekend.

The closure accompanies stepped-up security and traffic planning for visiting leaders and delegates. Delhi Police and traffic police have already rehearsed motorcade routes between designated hotels and Bharat Mandapam, with diversion points planned across the city. Residents travelling through central Delhi may want to account for the traffic diversions being prepared for the summit.

The summit itself is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam.
