The Delhi Medical Association has asked residents with flu-like symptoms to wear N95 masks, avoid meeting others and consult a doctor rather than self-medicate.
Delhi has recorded 2,308 H1N1 cases so far this year, with total Influenza A and B cases crossing 3,000. The association has recommended respiratory hygiene, masks in crowded settings and prompt medical advice for people who develop symptoms.
Delhi has recorded 2,308 H1N1 cases in 2026, prompting the Delhi Medical Association to advise residents to mask up in crowded places and avoid self-medication for flu symptoms.
People who are unwell should wear an N95 mask, avoid meeting relatives and friends, and seek advice from a qualified doctor rather than taking antibiotics or antivirals on their own, the association said. It also recommended masks in markets and public transport, alongside regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding contact with the face using unwashed hands.
H1N1 is the predominant influenza subtype in Delhi this year, health minister Pankaj Singh said; H3N2 was the dominant strain last year. Cumulative Influenza A and B cases have crossed 3,000. Delhi’s case count had reached 2,308 by Tuesday’s emergency review.
The association said people returning from travel or places with increased influenza activity should monitor their health for at least 10 days and visit the nearest health facility if symptoms develop. It said the Delhi government has directed hospitals on screening, reporting and monitoring influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infection, while preparing beds, staff, medicines and essential equipment.
