Fadnavis joins Dahi Handi celebrations in Worli and Ghatkopar

Devendra Fadnavis broke a Dahi Handi with a coconut at Rajyog Pratishthan’s Janmashtami celebration in Worli on Saturday as Govinda teams gathered at the venue.

The chief minister received a shawl and flowers at the event. Earlier, he attended Dahi Handi celebrations in Ghatkopar with MLA Ram Kadam and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde.

Fadnavis described the ritual of breaking the pot and sharing its contents as a reminder to help people in need. “We should help others in times of need and be there for them,” he said.

He extended Janmashtami wishes to Govindas across Mumbai and asked people to celebrate “joyfully and safely”. At the Ghatkopar event, he said the programme was organised around the theme of a drug-free India and Maharashtra.

Teams formed multi-tiered human pyramids to reach suspended handis at venues across Mumbai, including Borivali. Adani Electricity issued a Dahi Handi safety checklist for organisers and participants, while BMC hospitals kept more than 100 beds on standby.
