FIR registered after seven-hour Congress sit-in at Parliament Street police station

Sahil Lochab, 19, and his mother sat with Rahul Gandhi outside Parliament Street police station on Friday, seeking an FIR over pellet-gun injuries Lochab sustained during the July 20 march to Parliament against NEET and other paper leaks.

Gandhi, Lochab and their lawyer had first gone to Connaught Place police station around noon before being directed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office at Parliament Street. Police initially said the matter fell within the scope of a Supreme Court-appointed committee examining police action and violence during the protests.

Gandhi showed the officer Lochab’s hospital medical report and began a sit-in after the request was not immediately accepted. Senior Congress leaders including Salman Khurshid, Kumari Selja and Mukul Wasnik joined. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra later held discussions with senior police officers while Lochab’s lawyer submitted medical and other documents.

The FIR was registered around 7 pm, roughly seven hours after the protest began. The BJP accused the Congress of attempting to spread anarchy and disrespecting the law. The sit-in had begun earlier on Friday.
