Janmashtami in Mumbai: four Krishna temples to visit on September 4

Janmashtami will be observed on Friday, September 4, with Mumbai’s Krishna temples preparing for prayers, devotional music and midnight worship marking Krishna’s birth.

In Juhu, ISKCON is expected to hold rituals, bhajans, kirtans and cultural programmes, culminating in midnight prayers. Visitors should plan their journeys around traffic curbs announced for the Juhu area.

In South Mumbai, the haveli-style Sunderbagh Temple, also called Dwarkadhish Temple, stands on Kalbadevi Road. Sunderdas Mulji Jetha built the shrine, which was once known as the Monkey Temple.

Further afield, Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohanji ISKCON in Kharghar stands near Central Park and the Golf Course in Sector 23. In Shirgaon, Virar East, the Dwarkadhish Temple is a replica of the Dwarka temple.

Dahi Handi celebrations will follow on September 5.
