Fourteen school buses stuck for hours as Gurugram roads flood

Fourteen school buses were stranded at Subash Chowk for more than four hours on Monday, as heavy rain flooded roads across Gurugram.

Drivers and staff carried children to the roadside, while parents waited to collect them. Taruna Bhatia, who lives in Sector 70, said her child had been stuck since 1pm. An ambulance took more than 90 minutes to travel 7km on Sohna Road.

The district administration recorded 75 mm of rainfall in Gurugram tehsil between 8am and 3pm. Waterlogging disrupted movement near Rajiv Chowk, Narsinghpur, IFFCO Chowk, Sirhaul border, NH-48, Sohna Road and Sheetla Mata Road, as well as Old Delhi Road, Railway Road, Basai Road and Mehrauli Road. A 4km queue formed near Islampur Village on Sohna Road in the evening.

Residents also reported flooding in sectors including 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 10A, 12, 14, 17A, 23, 29, 34, 43 to 47, 49, 52, 65, 67 and 69. The district administration urged corporate, private and government offices, along with schools, to work from home on August 25 until further notice. Gurugram had issued a similar advisory after rain a day earlier.
