GBA begins clearing uncleared vacant plots in Shanthinagar, bills to go to owners
The Greater Bengaluru Authority will clean private vacant plots left uncleared and recover the cost through owners’ property-tax payments.
The drive begins in Shanthinagar on August 27 under the ‘Freedom from Waste’ campaign. Owners who did not clear their plots by the deadline can also face penalties of ₹25,900 to ₹1.75 lakh, based on plot size.
Shanthinagar is the starting point for the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s move to clear private vacant plots whose owners have not acted by the deadline.
From August 27, the GBA will arrange the cleaning of such plots and recover the cost from owners through their property tax. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda is set to begin the process of imposing penalties on non-compliant owners under the ‘Freedom from Waste’ campaign.
The penalties range from ₹25,900 to ₹1.75 lakh, depending on the size of the plot. The campaign was launched earlier this month; the city had announced the August 27 start for the cleaning drive.
