Gurgaon commuter says an 8-km trip home took 2.5 hours after rain

Hensi Soni began walking when she could not find a cab or auto for her trip home through rain-hit Gurgaon roads.

In a video shared on Instagram, Soni said traffic was blocked “as far as you can see” and that travelling home from office after rain had become “a whole battle”. She later said the eight-kilometre journey took around two-and-a-half hours.

Soni said taking an auto did not seem useful amid the congestion, because it could move slower than walking. Her account captures the disruption commuters can face when rain coincides with the evening journey from Gurgaon’s office districts.

The city has seen rain-related waterlogging and slow traffic on key roads in recent days, with offices also advised to facilitate work from home after heavy rain. Gurgaon’s latest rain-related traffic disruption affected major routes across the city.
