Gurgaon school buses trapped for hours in flooded routes, parents wade in at Subhash Chowk

Kiara, a Class II student who left her Sector 47 school at 12.30pm, reached her Sector 51 home at 8.30pm on Monday after her bus was caught in Gurgaon’s flooded roads.

School buses were stranded for between three and six hours after monsoon rain inundated key stretches, with Subhash Chowk among the worst-hit locations. Parents tracked buses, called schools and shared updates in messaging groups as children remained inside vehicles. Some parents who tried to drive to the buses could not get through the gridlock.

At Subhash Chowk, parents and relatives waded through floodwater to bring children out of buses. One parent said some adults crossed water about 3.5 feet deep for several hundred metres to escort children to safety. Aarav and Aarush, whose bus had been stationary from 12.30pm near the chowk, reached home around 5pm.

Waterlogging and broken-down buses compounded the traffic jam. The disruption followed widespread rain-related waterlogging on Gurgaon’s major roads.
