Gurugram commuters face hours-long jams after rain floods roads

Schoolchildren sat in buses for hours as Monday’s downpour flooded roads across Gurugram and brought traffic to a crawl.

Commuters shared videos and photographs of waterlogged streets, long queues of vehicles and crumbling road infrastructure as they tried to get home. The disruption followed rain across NCR, with residents reporting that journeys which would ordinarily be routine became hours-long waits.

The flooding comes after 14 school buses were stuck for hours on Gurugram roads. Schools have since been told to avoid waterlogged routes and reroute buses until September 30.

For residents, the immediate concern remains whether key roads can drain quickly enough when the next spell of rain arrives.
