IFFCO Chowk service road shut after sewer-line cave-in

A crater nearly 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep opened on the Delhi-to-Jaipur service road near IFFCO Chowk at about 3pm on Tuesday, forcing its closure.

Traffic police cordoned off the damaged section and alerted the National Highways Authority of India and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority. GMDA executive engineer Bhim Arya said a damaged major sewer line running beneath the road caused it to sink. Rain postponed planned repair work to Wednesday.

Buses travelling towards Rewari and Rajasthan, which routinely stop along this service road for passengers, may face disruption. Motorists headed for Sector 29 and South City-1 have been directed to take the alternate service road and use the exit near the foot overbridge; another two-lane service road ahead can be used to reach the highway.

The closure follows a day of widespread rain disruption across Gurgaon, where waterlogging affected roads including Subhash Chowk, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, MG Road and parts of DLF Phase 3. Key roads were already slowed by waterlogging.
