IMD corrects Delhi’s August rain tally; light showers forecast for Independence Day

Delhi’s August rain tally has been corrected to 197.2 mm after a data-entry error at the Safdarjung observatory briefly made it appear that the city had crossed its monthly average.

The August 6 rainfall reading was 18.7 mm, but was entered as 56 mm, inflating the monthly total by 37.3 mm. The revised figure leaves Delhi slightly below the normal August average of 226.8 mm. The earlier correction had already revised the city’s total to 197.2 mm.

For Independence Day, the IMD has forecast cloudy skies and scattered light rain. An early-morning shower is likely between 4 am and 6 am, followed by lighter drizzles in the morning and afternoon. August 16 may also bring intermittent light rain, with maximum temperatures expected around 33-35 degrees Celsius.
