Janakpuri records 28.5mm rain as Delhi expects showers through Tuesday

Janakpuri logged 28.5mm of rain on Sunday, the highest among Delhi’s reporting stations, as showers arrived unevenly across the city.

Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recorded 3.4mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Naraina received 21.5mm, Palam 10.6mm, Lodhi Road 2.7mm, Ridge 0.8mm and Ayanagar 0.6mm. The patchy rain followed a cloudy Sunday forecast for Delhi-NCR.

The India Meteorological Department expects light to moderate showers on Monday and light to very light rain on Tuesday. From Wednesday to August 29, rainfall is unlikely. Maximum temperatures should stay around 34-36°C for the next two days, then may rise by 1-2°C as the rain eases.

Sunday’s maximum was 33.9°C, near normal, though the heat index reached 41.9°C at 2.30pm. The minimum was 25.9°C. Delhi’s AQI stood at 96, in the satisfactory category.
