JP Nadda to review Delhi’s H1N1 preparedness amid reported rise in cases

Union Health Minister JP Nadda will chair a review of Delhi’s H1N1 situation on Friday, with the Delhi health minister and senior officials from the Union and Delhi governments expected to attend.

The meeting will assess disease surveillance, healthcare preparedness, diagnostic and treatment services, and the steps being taken to contain the reported rise in cases. Officials are also likely to examine the availability of medicines, testing facilities and hospital beds.

H1N1 is an influenza A virus that can cause fever, cough, sore throat, body ache, headache, chills and fatigue. Health experts have advised people with flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention where needed, particularly as some vulnerable groups may develop complications.

Doctors in Delhi-NCR have also reported more H1N1 and respiratory infections during the continuing humid weather. The review is expected to decide whether Delhi’s existing surveillance and healthcare capacity need strengthening.
