Kamala Nehru College holds Deeksharambh orientation week

Kamala Nehru College’s first-year students spent August 10 to 14 learning about personal safety, wellbeing, health and campus support during the college’s Deeksharambh foundation programme.

The University of Delhi college opened the week with a session titled “Delhi is a Safe Place”. Delhi Police sub-inspector Kiran Sethi, a Taekwondo expert, spoke to students about personal safety and shared self-defence tips.

The programme also included a session on human values and mental wellbeing. Prof. Anirban Dash, director of the National Mission for Manuscripts, spoke about India’s script heritage and the idea of “Vivek” — distinguishing right from wrong. Principal Pavitra Bhardwaj later addressed newcomers and their parents on the college’s culture, values and facilities.

Lakshya, the college theatre society, performed an anti-ragging skit. On the fourth day, Ridhima Foundation founder and lead physician Dr Deepika led a Nirog Nari campaign session on women’s health and preventive care.

On the final day, first-year students were paired with senior mentors. A cultural fair followed, where student societies presented their activities ahead of the new academic session.
