A Delhi man’s ₹2.05-crore notice over an alleged covert recording at a Khan Market café has drawn attention to how camera-equipped glasses are used around other diners.
The man alleges an Instagram creator recorded and followed him at the café on July 24 using Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, then posted footage two days later. Restaurant operators in Delhi NCR say they favour staff intervention against non-consensual recording over an outright ban on the devices.
A Delhi man has sought ₹2.05 crore in damages from Meta and an Instagram creator after alleging he was covertly filmed at a Khan Market café on July 24 using Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
He says the creator approached and questioned him, then followed him after he changed seats. The footage was posted as an Instagram Reel on July 26. The legal notice seeks its removal, an apology and preservation of evidence. GTK previously reported on the notice.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses use a front-facing white LED to indicate recording, though their hands-free camera can make filming less apparent than a phone held up in view.
Kanishk Tuteja of Delhi’s Mido House said his restaurant would not refuse entry solely because a diner wore smart glasses. But staff would intervene, and could ask a person to leave, if they continued recording guests or employees without permission after being told to stop.
Gathika Chabbra of Before British Raj, Delhi NCR, said recording one’s own café experience was different from unknowingly filming everyone nearby. The notice seeks removal of the Reel and preservation of evidence.
