Delhi rain: Waterlogging slows traffic near IGI Airport

Waterlogged stretches near IGI Airport and Mahipalpur slowed traffic on Saturday, with people wading through knee-deep water in some areas and an auto-rickshaw nearly submerged.

Rain disrupted movement on NH-48 between the airport and Dhaula Kuan. The Dwarka underpass linking Palam with the domestic airport area, roads near Terminal 3, the Palam airport tunnel and the NH-8 underpass were also affected. Passengers had faced delays outside T2 and T3 earlier in the day.

Waterlogging was also reported in Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar, Sangam Vihar’s Neem Chowk Road, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and several stretches in Dwarka. Trees fell on Mathura Road and near Malviya Nagar Metro Station.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected affected areas near Sadbhavana Park in East Delhi and directed officials to use pumps and other resources to drain accumulated water. Delhi Traffic Police warned of slow movement at multiple locations.

Safdarjung and Palam each recorded 35.6mm of rain between 8.30am and 5.30pm. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and rain through the night.
