Maujpur motorcyclist hurt by Chinese manjha at traffic signal

Gaurav Sharma, 35, was riding through the Maujpur traffic signal on Saturday when a loose kite string caught his neck, police said. Police said the glass-coated Chinese manjha injured his neck and caused him to fall from his motorcycle.

Passersby took Sharma to GTB Hospital after the incident was reported to police at around 2pm. He is out of danger, police said.

Police said they are registering a case and continuing raids against sellers of Chinese manjha, which they said is banned by the National Green Tribunal. During a special Independence Day drive, police arrested a Begumpur resident and seized 80 reels of the string, they said.

The injury follows an incident in which a three-year-old was hurt by a loose kite string in Maujpur on Wednesday. Police also cited an August 5 incident in Uttam Nagar in which a 32-year-old businessman was seriously injured while riding home on a motorcycle.
