MCD says it sealed 1,557 industrial units after identifying 2,299 establishments that breached air- or water-pollution norms in Delhi’s non-conforming industrial areas.
Between December 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, the corporation surveyed 11,273 units across all 250 wards. It classified 1,669 of the units as linked to air pollution and 630 as linked to water pollution. Of the sealed units, 1,111 were linked to air pollution and 446 to water pollution. MCD also said 705 units were vacated and 34 received show-cause notices.
Shahdara North recorded 370 units identified for pollution violations, followed by Sadar Paharganj with 240 and the central zone with 140. The west zone recorded 146 water-pollution violations, ahead of Shahdara North’s 126 and Shahdara South’s 74.
The inspections cover units operating outside designated industrial land-use areas, often near residential or mixed-use neighbourhoods. District magistrates have been asked to supervise action in 48 pollution hotspots, including against units involved in metal casting, plastic-waste reprocessing, spray painting and heat treatment. MCD said it would intensify inspections and sealing drives over the coming month.
