De-weeding at Jakkur Lake Park, a biodiversity survey at Rachenahalli Lake Park and clean-up sessions in several neighbourhoods marked a weekend of volunteer activity.
Volunteer groups held park-care, waste-management and nature-awareness activities in Jakkur, Doddakallasandra, Rachenahalli, Rajajinagar, Banashankari and JP Nagar.
Jalaposhan volunteers de-weeded Jakkur Lake Park on Saturday, while Sunday’s activities ranged from a waste-segregation drive at BDA Doddakallasandra Park-2 to a biodiversity survey at Rachenahalli Lake Park.
The Naturalist School led the Rachenahalli walk, where participants documented species including spot-billed pelicans, butterflies, ants, geckos and trees. Founder-director Priya Venkatesh said the aim was to help residents understand and care for Bengaluru’s lakes as living ecosystems.
Youth for Seva also held a clean-up and waste-management session at Netaji Park in Rajajinagar. At Pushpanjali Park in Banashankari, Adamya Chetana conducted plantation and sapling-maintenance work, while Women of Wisdom organised a collection drive at Senior Citizens Park in JP Nagar 7th Phase.
More than 150 volunteers took part in a Jakkur Lake clean-up in September. Residents can register for future park-volunteering activities through the initiative’s registration platform.
