Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8°C on Friday, 4.7°C above normal, as hot conditions continued in Mumbai and neighbouring districts.
The India Meteorological Department had issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri on Friday. While it issued no formal heatwave warning for the weekend, the department said Saturday could bring heatwave-like conditions.
For Mumbai city and suburbs, the forecast for the next 48 hours is clear skies and hot-day conditions. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 36°C and 26°C. Colaba recorded a maximum of 37°C on Friday, 4.4°C above normal.
The southwest monsoon withdrew from Mumbai on October 3, five days before its normal withdrawal date. Air quality readings were also elevated at several monitoring stations on Friday: Deonar recorded an AQI of 152, followed by Worli at 140, Bhandup West at 131, Mazgaon at 123 and Malad West at 122.
The IMD forecast hot-day conditions for Sunday as well.
