Preeta Mathur Thakur’s *Veera Rani Abbakka*, a Hindi historical drama about 16th-century Ullala queen Abbakka Chowtha, will be staged at Prithvi Theatre on October 8 and 9.
The play traces Abbakka’s resistance to Portuguese expansion on the Karnataka coast, where she built a naval force and forged alliances to protect Ullala’s sovereignty and maritime trade. Thakur wrote and directed the two-hour production, while Richa Sharad wrote the dialogues.
The cast includes Thakur, Neeta Mohindra, Ravish Kumar, Titiksha Tagar, Vikrant Chaturvedi, Kaustubh Sawant, Rafael Stemplewski and George Darley, among others. Nearly 26 actors perform in the production, with sets designed by Atul Tiwari and two narrators using Yakshagana-inspired costume and movement.
The play will be staged at 8pm on October 8, and at 6pm and 9pm on October 9.
