Gurgaon averaged 59 µg/m³ of PM2.5 in September and recorded six poor or very poor air days, CREA’s analysis of CPCB data found.
Gurgaon recorded six poor or very poor air-quality days in September, compared with none in either category during the same month last year.
The city’s monthly average PM2.5 concentration was 59 µg/m³, according to a Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air analysis of CPCB monitoring data. Gurgaon had one good day, 20 satisfactory days, three moderate days, three poor days and three very poor days during the month. In September 2025, it recorded 10 good days, 18 satisfactory days and two moderate days.
Manoj Kumar, an air analyst at CREA, said local emissions, pollution moving in from the wider region and weather conditions that restrict dispersion contributed to Gurgaon’s higher pollution. As part of the NCR airshed, Gurgaon is affected by emissions beyond its administrative boundaries, he said.
Across Haryana, Panipat recorded the highest September average among 251 cities assessed nationally, at 78 µg/m³. Jind averaged 66 µg/m³ and Yamunanagar 61 µg/m³, while Manesar matched Gurgaon at 59 µg/m³. CREA said falling temperatures and stagnant winter air could worsen pollution in the months ahead.
