Delhi: Barapullah Phase-III flyover sees 70–100 minute delays

Commuters reported queues of more than 2 km on the Barapullah Phase-III flyover on Tuesday, days after the 3.5-km corridor opened on September 29.

Commuters reported 70–100 minute delays on Delhi’s Barapullah Phase-III flyover. Police have flagged a sharp merge near Sundial Park.

A commuter travelling from Noida towards New Delhi spent more than 70 minutes on the new Barapullah Phase-III flyover on Tuesday, caught in a queue stretching over 2 km.

The 3.5-km corridor opened to traffic on September 29. It was expected to cut the Mayur Vihar-to-AIIMS journey to 15 minutes, but commuters reported waits of 70 to 100 minutes. Queues had reached up to 3.5 km during evening hours soon after the opening.

Delhi Traffic Police identified the merger near Sundial Park as the bottleneck. The new flyover joins the existing corridor at a sharp, near-rectangular angle, requiring vehicles to merge abruptly and slowing traffic.

PWD installed jersey barriers at the merger point on Tuesday. Traffic personnel are regulating vehicles manually, allowing one stream at a time. Delhi Traffic Police wrote to PWD on October 1 seeking a redesign and asked Google to update navigation patterns for the new route.
