Kanteerava Studio Road cavity filled; asphalt work planned

Workers filled a rain-damaged cavity near the FTI campus on Tuesday. Bengaluru West City Corporation said it plans to asphalt the stretch after the rains ease.

Heavy rain damaged Kanteerava Studio Road near the FTI campus. The civic body says it will asphalt the Surana College–Nandini Layout stretch after rains ease.

A cavity opened on Kanteerava Studio Road near the FTI campus after two days of heavy rain, disrupting traffic on the damaged carriageway on Tuesday.

Workers filled the cavity with broken concrete blocks and construction debris. Water flowing towards a manhole had damaged the road surface, commuters said.

The affected section is a less-than-one-kilometre stretch between Surana College and Nandini Layout, used to access the Peenya and Yeshwanthpur industrial belts. Deepak Gowda, a regular commuter, said the road had been in poor condition for years. He said a pothole was visible on Monday before becoming deeper after the rain.

Residents said utility work had damaged parts of the road and that the restored sections were inadequate. Some motorists have begun using longer routes to avoid the stretch.

Bengaluru West City Corporation commissioner Rajendra KV said funds had been approved under the Special Infrastructure Project. He said the corporation would begin asphalting after the rains ease instead of waiting for B-Smile's proposed whitetopping work, which he said could take three to four years.
