Angel Rose’s pink-rice installations open at Method Delhi

Amsterdam-based visual artist Angel Rose brought an untitled series using dyed pink rice, archival images and objects to Method, Delhi, for the third edition of Fresh Produce.

At Method Delhi’s Fresh Produce, Angel Rose shows pink-rice installations using archival images from former Dutch broadcaster OHM.

At Method, Delhi, Angel Rose places pink rice behind perspex beside photographs and television images, using a familiar grain to explore memory and migration.

The Amsterdam-based artist presented the untitled series in the third edition of Fresh Produce, alongside emerging artists from India. The works grew from her research in the archives of OHM, a former Dutch broadcaster that carried Indian, Surinamese and South Asian programming. Rose found images from the 1990s and 2000s that recalled the pop culture she encountered while growing up in the Netherlands.

Rice carries several meanings in the series: food, plantation crop, material and memory. Rose connects it to Surinamese-Hindustani histories shaped by plantation labour, including her own family history. Its texture also recalls television static from that period.

Her practice moves between photography, installation, archival material and ready-made sculpture. Pink, rhinestones and glossy surfaces bring together Western pop imagery with references to jewellery, fabric, saturated colour and elaborate dress in her work.

“The works that I make currently are very minimal, but because of that, every decision is very precise,” Rose said.
