Navi Mumbai: NMMC plans larger Marathi literary events after poetry contest

Navi Mumbai’s civic body plans larger Marathi literary events at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagriha next year after a poetry recitation competition drew 47 performers.

NMMC’s Marathi poetry recitation competition drew 47 performers from 71 registrations. Entries for its slogan and message-writing contest close on October 12.

Rudraksh Patare won NMMC’s Marathi poetry recitation competition, in which 47 of 71 registered residents, civic officers and employees performed poems by established Marathi writers.

The event was held during Classical Marathi Language Week, observed from October 3 to 9. Mayor Sujata Patil said NMMC plans to expand its Marathi literary programmes next year, with larger events proposed at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagriha. She urged residents to use Marathi in daily life alongside English.

Dilip Gaikwad and Pallavi Deshpande won second and third prizes. The top three received book prizes worth ₹3,000, ₹2,500 and ₹2,000 respectively. Five consolation-prize winners received books worth ₹1,000 each.

NMMC has extended the deadline for its Marathi slogan and message-writing competition to October 12. Navi Mumbai residents and civic staff can enter separately by submitting a slogan or a four-line public-awareness poem on Marathi conservation, cleanliness, the environment, plastic prevention or health. Registration details are available on 9930020814.
