MCG plans 854-vehicle doorstep waste collection network in Gurugram

Gurugram’s planned door-to-door waste collection contract could bring about 854 vehicles onto city routes, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram said after a review of sanitation, monsoon readiness and infrastructure works.

The contract, which is still being processed, is intended to cover collection from households, transport and delivery of waste to processing plants. It follows recent concerns over gaps in sanitation staffing and vehicles, for which the MCG had fined a contractor in Zone 5.

At the meeting, chaired by Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra and attended by commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, officials also assessed drainage improvements, pond revival and rainwater-harvesting work. The MCG said water had receded faster in several areas this monsoon than last year, attributing that to drainage upgrades and ongoing water-conservation projects.

The civic body is installing and automating SCADA monitoring systems at water boosting stations, while working towards round-the-clock drinking-water supply in phases. It is also digitally mapping sewer lines, water networks, stormwater drains, roads and footpaths to identify gaps and respond to civic complaints more quickly.
