Bengaluru: 150 join Jakkur Lake clean-up on World Cleanup Day

More than 150 volunteers joined a World Cleanup Day weekend clean-up at Jakkur Lake, collecting waste from the public space.

Students from Gopalan Engineering College joined the activity, organised by communiTREE and Jalaposhan Trust. Valeswara Rao of Jalaposhan Trust, who has volunteered at the lake for two years, said plastic and dry waste at the lake had reduced substantially during that period.

Youth for Seva led an activity at Girinagar Park, where students from NPS Rajajinagar demonstrated textile-waste management through their Project Evara initiative. Hasiru Dala held a plogging drive at Nagapura Park, while communiTREE and Smart Soc Hope Foundation brought volunteers together at Lalbagh.

Hafiz RK, founder and CEO of communiTREE, said parks need regular public involvement alongside infrastructure. The drives followed other resident-led efforts, including park clean-ups and tree planting across Bengaluru neighbourhoods.
