Mumbai records 61,528 Ganesh, Hartalika idol immersions by 4am

Mumbai recorded 61,528 Ganesh and Hartalika idol immersions by 4am on September 16, the BMC said.

Households immersed 61,135 idols, while public Ganesh mandals immersed 301. The total also included 92 Hartalika idols. By 9pm the previous evening, Mumbai had recorded 25,231 immersions.

The civic body said it set up designated immersion points and artificial ponds across the city for devotees and processions. It said no untoward incidents were recorded during the period covered by the count.

Households observe visarjan after one-and-a-half days as well as on the fifth, seventh and final days of Ganeshotsav. BMC arrangements at immersion sites will continue until Anant Chaturdashi on September 25.
