Mumbai reservoirs at 96.29% of usable water capacity on September 12

Mumbai’s seven reservoirs held 13,93,652 million litres of water at 6 am on September 12, or 96.29% of their combined usable capacity of 14,47,363 million litres.

The stock was marginally lower than the 96.41% recorded a day earlier. At the same time last year, the reservoirs stood at 98.38%; in 2024, they were at 98.46%.

No rainfall was recorded at any of the seven lakes in the preceding 24 hours. The Bhandup Complex also recorded no rainfall during that period, though cumulative rainfall there since June 1 was 2,766 mm.

Vehar Lake was at 100% capacity. Upper Vaitarna, the lowest among the seven reservoirs, stood at 92.35%, followed by Modak Sagar at 94.32%. Bhatsa was at 97.44%, Tansa at 98.40%, Middle Vaitarna at 95.82% and Tulsi at 95.38%.

The BMC’s 10% water cut remained in place as the civic body reviewed reservoir levels. BMC engineers have also been inspecting neighbourhood water supply arrangements.
