Mumbai water reservoirs reach 97.72% of usable capacity

Mumbai’s seven water reservoirs held 14,14,395 ML on September 18, or 97.72% of their usable capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

The stock rose from 97.55% a day earlier. Vehar was at 100%, while Bhatsa, Tulsi, Tansa and Middle Vaitarna were each above 99%. Modak Sagar stood at 90.44% and Upper Vaitarna at 94.48%.

The reservoirs received rain over the previous 24 hours, led by 20 mm at Vehar. Upper Vaitarna and Tansa recorded 11 mm each, followed by Tulsi with 8 mm, Middle Vaitarna with 7 mm, and Modak Sagar and Bhatsa with 5 mm each.

The latest figure is higher than the 96.29% recorded on September 12, though it remains below the 99.02% recorded on September 18 last year. BMC had said it would review Mumbai’s 10% water cut once reservoir levels reached full capacity.
