NDMC puts 300 sanitation workers on New Delhi night shift before BRICS Summit

About 300 NDMC sanitation workers are now on night duty across New Delhi, with the civic body moving much of its sweeping and waste-lifting work outside the morning rush before the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12–13.

The intensified operation began on September 4. Night teams will sweep roads, clear scattered waste and empty bins and trolleys; pressure-jet cleaning will follow early in the morning, with the morning shift handling finishing work and fresh sanitation needs.

NDMC said major markets will be attended to in morning, evening and night shifts. It has deployed 10 mechanical road sweepers for night work, 15 gobbler machines during the day to collect litter, and 11 pressure-jetting machines for roads, footpaths, markets and public spaces. Door-to-door waste collection and trolley lifting have also been organised in three shifts in busy areas.

Around 120 personnel will work the evening shift, while the remaining workforce will be deployed in the morning. Supervisory staff, officers and Palika Sahayaks have been directed to stay available round the clock. The sanitation plan runs alongside NDMC’s 24-hour control room arrangements for summit routes.
