Spider-Man kites lead Independence Day rush at Old Delhi’s Lal Kuan market

Spider-Man is taking over the kite strings at Lal Kuan, where Old Delhi shoppers are picking the superhero design ahead of Independence Day.

Shop owner Ram Bahadur said he had sold more than 500 Spider-Man-themed kites in the past week, with school and college students among the keenest buyers. The kites cost ₹40 for a small size, ₹60 for medium and ₹110 for large.

Another shop owner, Ranjit Kumar, said many customers were choosing the Spider-Man design without browsing the wider range, which includes Tom and Jerry and Ludo kites. A member of Old Delhi’s Union Kite Club said the group had bought nearly 100 Spider-Man kites to distribute among its enthusiasts.

Other designs remain available: a playing-cards heart-and-spade kite is priced at ₹30, while an Akshay Kumar-themed design sells for ₹50. The market’s rush adds to the city’s Independence Day kite-flying plans.
