Supreme Court quashes most FIRs linked to July student protests; CJP calls off Delhi march

The Supreme Court has quashed FIRs filed across states and Union Territories in connection with student protests held from July 20 to 25, bringing a planned September 5 Delhi march by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to a halt.

The court allowed Delhi Police to pursue one FIR involving 2,873 people who attended the Jantar Mantar protest and were said to have serious criminal antecedents. The Centre, Delhi Police and the governments of Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and Maharashtra told the court they had sought the withdrawal of protest-linked cases and would not register new FIRs for those events.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the group was withdrawing its march call after the court order. The planned demonstration had followed concerns over pending cases against students, as detailed in GTK’s earlier coverage.

The court also asked the Centre to work out compensation arrangements within three months for families of NEET-UG aspirants who died by suicide following the 2026 exam cancellation.
