Traffic police flag 26 Delhi waterlogging spots after August 24 rain

Water stayed on 26 Delhi roads for more than an hour after the August 24 rain, and in parts of south Delhi it took as long as five hours to recede.

The Delhi Traffic Police has sent the list of trouble spots to the NDMC, MCD, PWD, DDA and National Highways Authority of India, asking them to carry out urgent works to prevent repeat flooding. The city received an average 34.6mm of rain by late afternoon that day; although rainfall largely stopped around 3pm, traffic disruption continued into the evening.

Commuters faced long jams on the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, including the Ring Road stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to Lajpat Nagar via Ashram Chowk, South Extension and Safdarjung Hospital. The area around Dhaula Kuan was also affected. Ayanagar recorded 101.9mm during the same spell.

A traffic police report dated August 25 noted that some of the 26 locations had also seen waterlogging in 2024, 2025 or earlier this year. Police shared the list with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu at a meeting attended by representatives of the concerned departments.
